Ce înseamnă impersonal
În eseuri, rapoarte și articole științifice, autorul nu se pune în centru. În loc de I think, you can see sau we found, folosești construcții care pun accent pe idee, dovadă și proces:

It is + adjectiv / participiu + that sau + infinitiv:
It is widely acknowledged that education reduces poverty.
Este larg recunoscut că educația reduce sărăcia.
It is worth noting that the survey was small.
Merită remarcat că sondajul a fost mic.
Expresii utile: It is clear / evident / essential / worth noting / often argued / generally accepted that…
Construcții cu there
There is a growing concern about air quality.
Există o îngrijorare tot mai mare privind calitatea aerului.
There appears to be no simple solution.
Se pare că nu există o soluție simplă.
Pasivul
Pasivul ascunde cine a făcut acțiunea și pune accent pe ce s-a făcut. E standard în metodologie și rapoarte:
The data were collected over six months and analysed using statistical software.
Datele au fost colectate timp de șase luni și analizate cu un program statistic.
Substantive în loc de pronume
This study, the present report, the author, the findings înlocuiesc I și we:
This report examines the causes of the decline.
Acest raport examinează cauzele declinului.
