So + adjectiv + inversiune
Ca să pui accentul pe intensitatea unei calități, începi cu so + adjectiv (sau adverb), apoi verbul și subiectul, apoi that + consecința:
The noise was so loud that we couldn't sleep. → So loud was the noise that we couldn't sleep.
Zgomotul era atât de puternic, încât n-am putut dormi.
So quickly did the fire spread that nobody could stop it.
Focul s-a răspândit atât de repede, încât nimeni nu l-a putut opri.
Cu un verb fără auxiliar (spread), folosești did, ca la celelalte inversiuni.
Such + be + inversiune
Such + be + subiect înseamnă „atât de mare / puternic era…”:
Such was the demand that the tickets sold out in an hour.
Cererea a fost atât de mare, încât biletele s-au vândut într-o oră.
Such is the power of social media.
Atât de mare este puterea rețelelor sociale.
Adverbe de loc și direcție
După adverbe ca here, there, up, down, in, out, away, off sau după o expresie de loc, verbul principal (nu auxiliarul) poate trece înaintea subiectului. Se întâmplă cu verbe de mișcare sau poziție (come, go, sit, stand, lie):
Here comes the bus!
Uite că vine autobuzul!
Down came the rain, and everyone ran for cover.
A început să toarne, iar toată lumea a fugit la adăpost.
On the hill stood an old castle.
Pe deal se înălța un castel vechi.
Atenție: cu un pronume nu inversezi: Here it comes, nu Here comes it; Off they went, nu Off went they.
Răspunsuri scurte: so, neither, nor
Ca să spui „și eu” sau „nici eu”, folosești so / neither / nor + auxiliar + subiect:
