Ce este inversiunea
La B2 ai învățat că după unele adverbe negative, la începutul propoziției, verbul auxiliar trece înaintea subiectului, ca într-o întrebare (B2, Lecția 37): Never have I seen such a mess. La C1 lărgești lista și folosești inversiunea ca să dai dramatism sau emfază, mai ales în scris și în discursuri.
Regula: expresia + auxiliar + subiect + verb principal. Dacă nu există auxiliar, folosești do / does / did:
I rarely go out. → Rarely do I go out.
Rareori ies în oraș.
Expresii negative și restrictive
| Expresia | Exemplu |
|---|---|
| Little | Little did they realise what was coming. |
| At no time | At no time did he mention the problem. |
| Under no circumstances | Under no circumstances should you open this door. |
| On no account | On no account must you tell her. |
| In no way | In no way is this your fault. |
| Not once | Not once did she complain. |
| Nowhere | Nowhere else will you find such views. |
Little did I know that we would meet again.
Nu aveam habar că ne vom revedea.
Only și not until
Cu only + o expresie de timp sau condiție, inversiunea apare în propoziția principală, nu după only:
Only when I got home did I realise I'd lost my wallet.
Abia când am ajuns acasă mi-am dat seama că îmi pierdusem portofelul.
Not until the end of the film did we understand the title.
Abia la sfârșitul filmului am înțeles titlul.
La fel: Only then…, Only after…, Only by…, Only if…
No sooner… than, hardly… when
Pentru două acțiuni care se succed foarte repede, folosești Past Perfect cu inversiune:
No sooner had we sat down than the phone rang.
Abia ne așezaserăm, că a sunat telefonul.
Hardly had she arrived when the problems started.
Abia sosise, că au și început problemele.
Perechile sunt fixe: no sooner … than, dar hardly / scarcely / barely … when.
