Timpurile narative: Past Simple, Past Continuous, Past Perfect

Trei timpuri, trei roluri

Într-o poveste, fiecare timp are o treabă:

Timpul	Rolul în poveste	Exemplu
Past Continuous	fundalul: ce se întâmpla în jur	It was raining and people were rushing home.
Past Simple	evenimentele principale, în ordine	I opened the door and saw a dog.
Past Perfect	ce se întâmplase înainte	Someone had left it outside.

It was a cold night in December, and snow was falling.

Era o noapte rece de decembrie și ningea.

I was walking home from work when I heard a strange noise.

Mergeam spre casă de la serviciu când am auzit un zgomot ciudat.

I turned around and saw a small puppy in the snow.

M-am întors și am văzut un cățeluș în zăpadă.

Someone had left it outside a shop, and it was shivering.

Cineva îl lăsase în fața unui magazin și tremura.

As soon as I picked it up, it stopped crying.

Imediat ce l-am luat în brațe, a încetat să scâncească.

I took it home, and three years later, Max is still with me.

L-am luat acasă și, după trei ani, Max e încă cu mine.

Cuvântul	Ce face
while	introduce fundalul (Past Continuous)
when	introduce o acțiune scurtă sau un moment
as soon as	imediat după
suddenly	ceva neașteptat
by the time	până la un moment (des cu Past Perfect)
in the end / eventually	rezultatul final
