| Verbul | Sens | Exemplu |
|---|---|---|
| look forward to | a aștepta cu nerăbdare | I'm looking forward to seeing you. |
| put up with | a suporta | I can't put up with the noise. |
| come up with | a născoci, a propune | She came up with a great idea. |
| run out of | a rămâne fără | We've run out of milk. |
| get away with | a scăpa nepedepsit | He got away with cheating. |
| catch up with | a ajunge din urmă | I'll catch up with you later. |
| cut down on | a reduce | You should cut down on sugar. |
| look down on | a privi de sus | Don't look down on others. |
I'm looking forward to the weekend.
| Tipul | Substantiv | Pronume |
|---|---|---|
| separabil | turn off the light / turn the light off | turn it off (nu turn off it) |
| inseparabil | look after the children | look after them |
Verbele cu trei părți sunt mereu inseparabile: put up with it, run out of it.
La pasiv
Multe verbe frazale se folosesc și la pasiv: The meeting was called off. (A fost anulată.) Particula rămâne la sfârșit.
