Ce contează: pașii, nu persoana
Când descrii un proces (cum se face ceva, cum funcționează), interesează ce se întâmplă, nu cine face. De aceea folosești pasivul la prezent (B1, Lecția 26):
First, the glass is collected from the bins.
Mai întâi, sticla este colectată din containere.
Then it is sorted by colour and crushed.
Apoi este sortată după culoare și zdrobită.
Finally, the new bottles are delivered to the shops.
În final, sticlele noi sunt livrate în magazine.

După once, after și when poți folosi Present Perfect pasiv, pentru a arăta că un pas s-a terminat înainte de următorul:

După ce sticla a fost topită, este turnată în forme.
Un exemplu complet
First, the paper is collected and taken to a recycling centre. Then it is sorted and washed. After that, it is pressed into sheets, and finally the sheets are dried and packaged.
Mai întâi, hârtia este colectată și dusă la un centru de reciclare. Apoi este sortată și spălată. După aceea este presată în foi, iar la final foile sunt uscate și ambalate.
În vorbire poți folosi și forma activă: You collect the paper, then you sort it. În scris, pasivul sună mai potrivit.
Here is how olive oil is produced. First, the olives are picked by hand or by machine and taken to the mill.
Once they have been washed, they are crushed into a thick paste. Next, the paste is stirred slowly for about half an hour, so that the tiny drops of oil can join together.
After the paste has been stirred, it is pumped into a machine called a centrifuge, where the oil is separated from the water.
Finally, the oil is filtered, stored in large steel tanks and bottled. The whole process takes only a few hours, so the oil stays fresh.
