Cum faci o întrebare
În română, întrebarea se face de obicei doar prin intonație: „Ești student?”. În engleză, schimbi ordinea: verbul to be trece înaintea subiectului.
| Afirmativ | Întrebare |
|---|---|
| You are a student. | Are you a student? |
| She is from Italy. | Is she from Italy? |
| They are at home. | Are they at home? |
| I am late. | Am I late? |
| It is cold. | Is it cold? |
Răspunsurile scurte
În engleză, de obicei nu răspunzi doar cu Yes sau No, ci adaugi subiectul și verbul. Așa răspunsul sună mai politicos și mai natural:
| Întrebarea | Da | Nu |
|---|---|---|
| Are you tired? | Yes, I am. | No, I'm not. |
| Is he a doctor? | Yes, he is. | No, he isn't. |
| Is it new? | Yes, it is. | No, it isn't. |
| Are they friends? | Yes, they are. | No, they aren't. |
Întrebări cu cuvinte interogative
Poți pune un cuvânt interogativ la început. Ordinea rămâne: cuvânt interogativ + to be + subiect.
Where are you from?
De unde ești?
What is your name?
Cum te numești? (literal: Care este numele tău?)
Who is she?
Cine este ea?
How are you?
Ce mai faci?
How old is your brother?
Câți ani are fratele tău?
Where is the station?
Unde este gara?
În vorbire, is se scurtează adesea după cuvântul interogativ: What's, Where's, Who's, How's.
